A Treatise on Mushrooms
Peter Kruty 2001 Excerpts by John Cage, Roland Barthes, and Kirsty Cunn; Twinrocker may linen paper, acrylic paint letterpress printing 13 x 10 5/8 x 5/8 in 61 pages edition of 36 text by John Cage, Roland Barthes, Kirsty Gunn illustrated by Shelagh Keeley A Treatise on Mushrooms takes its cue from an early 19th C book of pressed flowers the artist, Shelagh Keeley, found in a Paris flea market. We handmarbled stone pattern papers for the portfolio case, created a label with 'armature' calligraphy, used a velvet 'mushroom' cloth on the spine and dyed linen tapes to match this cloth and gave to the non-adhesive binding a flexibilty by using thin boards to give the feeling of a well loved and much used field notebook. The line images were printed first without ink and then hand-painted by the artist over this debossed line using Golden acrylic paintes, particularly the mysterious color Anthracite. The half-tones were printed damp on handmade Twinrocker paper and each halftone was cleaned of tis residual ink before the next printing. | ||||
