Offwhite Book, The

Pamela  Spitzmueller

1995
number 1
edition of 1

Being a professional book conservator has given me a special opportunity to examine bookbindings in damaged conditions. The visible inner structure can be an inspiration for my creative work. My particular interest in sewing structure finds an outlet in my book forms. The careful handling and combination of book materials is a central aspect of my work. Paper, fabric, leather, wood, parchment, ink, pencil, paint, and metal. How they respond when I manipulate them influences the shape and content each one finally assumes. When I start I'm not really sure what the end result will be. Some will have text, some will have images, some will have both, some neither. These book forms chart my knowledge and progress, present mysteries and memories.
