Books bound with handmade paper have become a way to integrate both my love of nature and my love for the discovery of creation into one object. I choose to work with natural objects because of an underlying appreceiation and respect for the fragility of nature. My books are a response to the tactile qualities of a book as an art object. They ask to be held, touched and looked at closely. This intimacy is what has drawn me to this medium. An important element that affects my work is my belief that humanity and nature share a similar vulnerability and that we are dependent on one another for survival. Naturally occurring vessel forms and other procreative objects refer to my female self and the object that I create serves as a metaphor for my own being.
