Steven Stankiewicz 1993 Etching, hand bound. 14 x 15 in 38 pages My involovement with printmaking has developed alongside an increasing appreciation of the natural symbiosis between fine-art bookmaking and prints. This has led to a rediscovery of the potential of sequential images as a unique mode of expression that had begun with my adolescent interest in comic books. TRAINS, my first attempt at bookmaking, was inspired by a combination of the look and feel of blueprints and technical drawings, a long and continuing fascination with industrial machinery, and the unique quality of scientific and historical picture books. It is an attempt to capture some of the essence of these book genres, yet by approaching the subject matter obliquely and referentially, to give its own integrity as a thing that is visual rather than informative. | ||||
