Mixed media on Fabriano paper, originally pubished in The Village Voice
12 1/2 x 12 1/2 in

My sketchbooks are an integral part of my artistic process. I fill them with mindless scriblings, doodles, notes, lists, addresses and phone numbers. They are important vessels for ideas and images that I can draw from, scavenge and cannibalize. I also use them to explore concepts and compositions for my commissioned illustrations and my personal pieces. My "finished" pieces are more labored over. They are usually a mixed-media affair of paint, charcoal, gesso, and collage, featuring fragments of newspapers, magazines, paper bags, sandpaper, maps, leaves and other found materials.
