Book of Debris, The, Volume #9

Moses  Hoskins

Collage and mixed media on acid-free sketchbook
17 x 14 x 2 in
number 1
edition of 1

These volumes are selections from a series or "set" of works collectively entitled "The Book of Debris, (by Moses E. Hoskins)," currently numbering two dozen volumes and growing. Although aesthetic continuity is evident, volumes do vary in intent. Some act chiefly as pieces, units (of art). Others are volumes of collections of individual compositions in the tradition of "classical" collage, each page independent of the preceding and the subsequent. Most volumes employ variation on both approaches. The most prominent imbuement unifying the transpiration is the consistent use of street schmegma (minor litter, debris) gathered on walks to somewhere, or during gratuitous strolls. An anthropological document is resulting. Specific philospohical interpretation will necessarily vary according to one's point of view.
