Self Portrait

Stevan  Jennis

1982

I decided to do a self portrait using two images: a simple profile of a head and a palette with paint.// The head is an image I have used at times for self-representation. The blocky head form symbolizes a simple volumetric shape that has a solid and humorous presence. Often my work incorporates wit or humor, so this head is a natural reflection of myself. The palette is a more traditional object, indicating an artist's materials.// Working with paper lends itself easily to various working modes. It can be cut-out, built with, collaged and materials can be simply applied. It is also easy to discard and begin again.
