Story and Illustration by Matthew Cogswell; Typography and Book Design by Marily Joslyn. Domus Lif is a tragic faerie tale about a twist of fate in a young boy's life. Its dimensions are intended to evoke a feeling of childhood when the world seemed immense.// At first glance, its design appears quite classic, but upon closer inspection reveals a co-operation between the elements of past and present. The clean lines and pristing tone of the book contrast the seeming decay of the plates.// Domus Lif was bound in an ivory linen with a matching hardbound slipcase. To give it a classic air, a fleur de lis pattern was used in the endpapers. The intaglio plates were printed on Somerset Velvet paper. The typography was printed in scarlet on a fiber-based vellum on a Vandercook letterpress. The typography was designed to fall in the same place on each page while working with the illustrations to create an interesting composition throughout the book. Prologue and Epilogue are blind embossed in Latin./ Only ten limited edition books were printed. Three of which reside in The Grunwald Collection at The UCLA/Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA; The Huntington Library, San Marino, CA; The J.Watson library at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York.
