Pastimes
Marie Dern 1997 Coptic binding in paper covered boards, handcolored photoengravings by Carl Dern coptic binding 8 x 6 1/2 in edition of 25 illustrated by Carl Dern published by Jungle Garden Press, Fairfax Pastimes is a book of drawings by Carl Dern. All of the drawings are self portraits. Each drawing is a reference to a situation most people encounter from time to time, whether real or imagined or dreamed about. What is depicted in the drawing is Dern's response to his everyday, commonplace experience which he believes he shares with other people.// When the book was finished, Carl signed it with his thumb. There are two reasons for this. It is the artist's "Thumb." Also, he had just had an operation on his hand and couldn't hold a pencil. I signed with my thumb for reasons of solidarity. | ||||
