I appreciate works that bear indelible traces of their maker's hand, and provide overt and oblique clues about the object's history. In an ongoing series of objects dealing with personal history, I strive to create spontaneous marks reminiscent of those a child makes. By erasing, scratching through, and layering marks, I make surfaces that provide visual histories of themselves through this pentimenti. In this book, I have revisited the tale of the house that Jack built. My retelling the story calls into question the history of what we were taught, and the gender stereotypes with which certain stories branded us. The title "This is the Book [I Made] About the House That Jack Built" asserts my authorship of the revision of the story, as well as my creation of the physical book itself.
