Messages in Stone

Evelyn  Eller

1991
number 1
edition of 1

For the last few years I have worked primarily in paper collage and artists books. The book format is a natural form to express my ideas on memory, travel, language, and nature. Lately I have been using the book as a sculptural object in which I combine disparate materials. In many of my works I use fragments of script from different languages to show the inter-relatedness of cultures and the commonality. The book, 'Messages in Stone," in which I combine brochures from national parks, maps, sand paintings, as well as xerox, is a plea to preserve the environment.
