Star Black: The Collaged Accordion
January 20, 2010 - April 3, 2010
Organized by Alexander Campos, Executive Director
Star Black is a poet and photographer who has created a series of
large-scale accordion books that merge found texts, found photographs
and ephemera (maps, hand-written letters, ledgers, etc.) to create surreal
imagery. The exhibition is accompanied by individual collages and her
own writings. Black says: "In many ways my collages are similar to poems
but translated from visuals, taking symbols, textures and "found" words
from else where and composing them within a page."
