Ray  Ring

1982

In my work since 1978 I have been studying a small drawing by Kasimir Malevich, done in 1920. I have taken his simple geometric elements and subjected them to my own systematic variations and permutations. I produced a large number of paintings in this series. An offshoot of this project has been the reinterpretation of these two-dimensional elements into three-dimensional solids.// Paper offered a natural transition media for this transformation. Cutting, folding and gluing is all that was necessary to create this work. The immediacy of these processes is unmatched in any other sculptural material that I have worked with.
