Everything in Time
January 19, 2011 - April 2, 2011
Organized by Tate Shaw, Director, Visual Studies Workshop
This exhibition recognizes contemporary artists using books to document maximalist methodologies. Artists who create these “Every” documents (i.e. everything I ate last year, every word I spoke one week, all the money I spent that month, etc), are struggling with the role of, and a lack of control over information. The “Every” documents featured in this exhibition respond to the filterers of information we rely upon in our daily lives—trusted sources that filter information into manageable content—by providing unfiltered documents of experience. These unfiltered, “Every” documents pose unique problems. Often massive in scale, they force us to contend with excess as an idea.
